It's a bit over the top with the music at points but it's brilliantly edited and really encompasses the feel of the show. I am so frakkin' ready for season 5!

This painful process has been both a burden and blessing but ultimately for you, the listener, it has meant a drought of podcasts. Currently I've got two unfinished Dharma-centric analysis episodes sitting on my computer... and I'm not really sure when they are going to be up.

This experience of making a Lost podcast, has allowed me to relate with my grandmother on a level that I would have never anticipated. Apologies for the lack of podcasts lately, this pesky thing called work is really cutting into Lost time (Mittelos, I totally didn't mean to do that). Anyway the Dharma Initiative #1 will be posted no later than Saturday and #2 will follow no later than Monday. We'll also be recording the third installment of the "DI," which delves into the actual members of the initiative on Tuesday. So please send in all of your theories, questions and comments, thank you all for your patience.

Now onto this wacky Dharma Recruitment process. Wouldn't ya know it, we have another test. And this time it's a math test. I think this is more punishment than anything else, because Dharma appears to be upset with all of the "cheating" according to Hans Van Eeghen's latest video diary www.dharmawantsyou.com.

I'm not going to lie, I hate math. I'm not terrible at it, but I have tried to avoid it most of my adult life. I'm not sure about anyone else but this test ranged from absurdly easy to redonkulously difficult. I took it twice and somewhere about question 6, we went from 4th grade to quantum mechanics. The first time I got 8/10 (no google either) but the second time around I was really pissed off at the sequence "13, 1113, 3113," so I searched immediately came across the "Conway Sequence." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conway_sequence

You can check out the page for more detailed info (and what I'm sure math geeks refer to as "really fun" math) but for our Lost-verse certain sections that jumped out at me.

1.) Conway's cosmological theorem: Every sequence eventually splits into a sequence of "atomic elements", which are finite subsequences that never again interact with their neighbors. There are 92 elements containing the digits 1,2,3 only, which John Conway named after the natural chemical elements. There are also two "transuranic" elements for each digit larger than 3.

2.) John Horton Conway has shown that the asymptotic rate of growth of the number of digits of subsequent terms of virtually all Look and say sequences is equal to 1.303577269...; this number has been labeled "Conway's constant".

Does this have something to do with our concept of "a constant," as explained by Danny Boy Faraday. I don't know. But when I read things like "constant" and "cosmological theorem," I'm going to take notes. Finally this ARG is getting interesting.

As for what all these Greek mythology characters have to do with our placement tests, I'm at a loss. I took the test twice and got 8/10 and 10/10 and I was put into the "Nyx" group. After googling I was impressed to find out the she, "was the primordial goddess of the night. A shadowy figure, Night stood at or near the beginning of creation, and was the mother of personified gods such as Sleep and Death. Her appearances in mythology are sparse, but reveal her as a figure of exceptional power."

I'll take it because it sounds much cooler than being a cyclops.

First off, thus far the purpose of this new Dharma Initiative (and the game) comes off as collecting email and personal information. This is just my personal preference, but I'd much rather click on a few blatant advertisements for Sprite or Jeep than "challenge a friend," to give their email and personal info to Dharma. This is exactly why I have no Dharma Points...

Second, what are these puzzle tests supposed to prove? That the best and the brightest are good with puzzles? Super. If you're one of the recruits (like I was) that used the now infamous "cheat," that seemed to be purposely placed into the site... then Dharma is an organization that rewards cleverness over intelligence (though I don't really see how anyone could've deduced the actual "cheat" other than stumbling across it accidentally).

Third, isn't it super cool that Dharma has put everybody into cool categories like "Pandora," and "Ganymede?!!" It would be cool if there were an address embedded in the source code that linked to another site called "Pandora Syndicate" or something cryptic sounding. But there isn't. And if there is something like that it won't be released for at least another two weeks.

This idea that Dharma wants you to "look beyond the test itself," is the only real clue as to where they are going with this ARG. And the notion that "things may not be quite what they seem" isn't really a groundbreaking idea in the Lost-verse. So as of this moment I'm still feeling kind of "meh" about this new Dharma experience. Give me something I can sink my teeth into please.

Dharma Dummies Episode 20: Mr. Eko Character Analysis Part 1

While we were waiting for the new fangled Dharma Initiative to do something interesting, here at Dummy headquarters we're getting back to some good old fashion podcasting.
